These family art workshops are being delivered by Surrey Artist Open Studio artists and are free for the whole family to take part. Each workshop is for 2 hours over two days. Participants will need to register their family and the sessions will be delivered online via Zoom so you will need to be able to

Make like Matisse with Charlie Betts

Two part workshop on Monday 3 August and Wednesday 5 August

Join Artist Charlie Betts for a Matisse cut-outs inspired course where you will create your own vivid collaged designs and then create beautiful final paintings on to either paper, canvas or a fabric of your choice such as a T-shirt or bag.

Mark Making and Mono Printing with Raw Ground Arts

Two part workshop on Tuesday 4 August and Thursday 6 August

During this workshop we will explore how to apply the process of drawing and mark-making to mono-printing techniques. Whether you are focussing on the landscape, taking notes from nature or arranging a still life, you will learn how mono-printing can enhance your aesthetic outcomes.

Materials required:

  • Water based – printing ink OR Acrylic paint & PVA glue
  • Mini roller (foam or lino roller) and palette
  • A4 or A5 Sheet of glass, perspex or other hard plastic
  • Tracing paper OR baking parchment
  • Pencil 
  • A range of different mark making tools
  • A3 or A4 paper – light weight cartridge, handmade (kadhi) or basic printer paper
  • Spare rags and water for cleaning 
  • Newspaper

Week 2: 24 – 28 August

Paper Mache Caterpillar with Louise Grundy

A two hour workshop spread over a two day period, Tuesday 25 and Thursday 27 August

Enjoy crafting together with the whole family as Louise Grundy leads a colourful and creative craft session. This fun workshop is designed create long lasting memories that require only the simplest of materials commonly found throughout the home.

Tate St. Ives Recreated with Ruth Wheeler

A two part workshop spread over a two day period, Wednesday 26 and Friday 28 August

Join artist Ruth Wheler to create your own Tate St Ives and fill it with your own miniature art works.  Taking inspiration from sculptor Barbara Hepworth carve your own works of art from bars of soap using kitchen knives, spoons, files, cocktail sticks or clay tools (if you have them).  Then recreate colourful postcard sized paintings inspired by artists like Patrick Heron from the Tate St Ives using paint and mixed media on card.  Install works into your own gallery created from Amazon Prime boxes and cereal packets using tape, glue and scissors.
