Arts Workshops

These art workshops are being delivered by local Surrey artists Ruth Wheeler and Charlie Betts. Each workshop is for 1.5 hours and participants will need to provide their own materials. Participants will need to register and pay with the sessions being delivered online via Zoom.

Tuesday 13 April

Tate St Ives Miniature Sculpture Carving

Join artist Ruth Wheler to create your own Tate St Ives and fill it with your own miniature art works.  Taking inspiration from sculptor Barbara Hepworth carve your own works of art from bars of soap using kitchen knives, spoons, files, cocktail sticks or clay tools (if you have them).  Then recreate colourful postcard sized paintings inspired by artists like Patrick Heron from the Tate St Ives using paint and mixed media on card.  Install works into your own gallery created from Amazon Prime boxes and cereal packets using tape, glue and scissors.

Younger participants will require parent support.

  • Materials required: 2x Bars of Soap; Clay knife or small blunt knife from the kitchen; potato peeler; cocktail stick or small skewer; pointy tools; clay metal tools if you have them; tea spoon.

Fantastic Rousseau Jungles

Charlie Betts delivers paint your own jungle scene with a tiger, monkey or tropical bird appearing through the leaves. Paint, print and collage in this fun class as we explore the wonderful work of Henri Rousseau.  

Younger participants may require parent support.

  • Materials required: Paper or thin card – 3 or 4 sheets; Paint; Pencils/ Pens; Brushes (and sponges – optional); Scissors; Glue; A selection of different shaped leaves
