Training and development

There are a number of courses and workshops that are run throughout the year that can help training and development.

Surrey Arts Interactive

Develop music in your school with Musical School and Surrey Arts Interactive. Musical School supports the National Curriculum and is used by over 6000 primary schools and is free for schools in Surrey.

Aimed at Primary schools, there are lots of fun beginner pieces, large song bank, supporting material including backing tracks, music games and activities to help with theory.

Surrey Arts Interactive provides a National Curriculum scheme of work from Reception through to Year 6:

  • Alternative ‘freestyle’ mode for you to create your own scheme
  • Suitable for Generalist and Specialist Teachers
  • High quality and cost-effective with excellent use of ICT
  • Recommended by over 80 Music Hubs and used in over 6000 schools
  • Reinforces continuous genuine music-making as desired by Ofsted

Training sessions are available every term for Primary School teachers.

Demos

Surrey Arts provide class demos for a range of instruments to inspire children and young people to start learning a musical instrument. To discuss demo opportunities contact Surrey Arts Music.

Application to music courses at HE level

Surrey Music Hub can offer advice to students and teachers who are considering their application to music courses at HE level.

Harry Whalley from University of Creative Arts (UCS) can visit schools in Surrey to talk about portfolio preparation, the UCAS personal statement and for teachers, what we look for in a reference.
