Arts Council Data Return

In Autumn 2017 schools will again be asked to supply a range of data about their music provision. This data will be collated and submitted to Arts Council England (ACE) by Surrey Arts, as lead partner of Surrey Music Hub. Further information about this will be sent to schools during September. We would be grateful if you could ensure that the survey is completed by Monday 2nd October 2017.

Much of the data needed will already exist in the form of registers, timetables and generic pupil information relating to the academic year 2016 – 17.

The data we will be asking you for includes:

– How many pupils in your school are learning to play a musical instrument (or to sing) outside the classroom (Eg individually or in small groups)

– If offered in your school, details about whole class instrumental tuition (known as WCET). Please note this is a new question area compared to the 2016 survey.

– which choirs, bands, groups or ensembles take place in your school

– any external partners (eg organisations, individuals, or other schools) who help you deliver these ensemble activities

If you are unable to provide accurate numbers, please supply a best estimate. Completing the Return, once you have collated your data, should take 5 – 10 minutes.

You may find it helpful to gather your data together before starting, as there is no facility to save an incomplete Return and come back later. For your convenience we have posted online a PDF copy of the questions (NB the PDF is for information only, please do not use to submit data). Download a pdf of the Data Return questions.
